It was said that silence is the most prominent feature of Mahmoud Kahil. His silent cartoons excite the reader, stimulating the imagination and drawing a bitter smile on his face. He is an artist who relies on the visuals more than words and this is what made his art a special language published in Arab and international newspapers. Born in Tripoli, Lebanon, Kahilšs first job was as graphic designer for an advertising agency. He then worked for the weekly magazine Usbu Al-Arabi as a layout designer, and it was there that his first cartoons were published. He came to London in 1979 to work for Saudi Research and Marketing and is still with the company as an Editorial Cartoonist for Asharq Al-Awsat and Arab News daily newspapers as well as the Al-Majalla weekly magazine Not only a cartoonist, he is also a journalist who does not use words when talking about his art during the very few interviews he has conducted during his career.
