Tanzanian Cartoonist/Illustrator/Designer Godfrey Mwampembwa (GADO) was born
on August 6th 1969, . GADO joined Nation Newspapers, the largest Newspaper in East
& Central Africa in 1992 as a staff Editorial Cartoonist and illustrator after freelancing
with a number of Tanzanian Newspapers and magazines, among them DAILY NEWS &
BUSINESS TIMES. His cartoons also have been published in NEWAFRICAN and FOCUS
ON AFRICA (both UK), DE STANDARD (Belgium), PRESS REVIEW (U.S) and NEW NATION (S.A).
GADO has produced cartoons, illustrations, graphics, book covers and posters for various
Organisations in Tanzania, Kenya and Italy including UN Organisations such as HABITAT
and UNICEF. Hešs among 12 cartoonists around the world who contributed in a book,
BROADERS (brothers) on NORTH-SOUTH relations produced in 1996 by Dutch Organisation
NOVIB. Between 1996-1997 GADO attended a 1 year workshop at FABRICA, a communication
RESEARCH Centre in Treviso, Italy. His works have been exhibited in Nairobi, Dar es Salaam,
Finland, Holland, Italy & German. Apart from being a painter in Oil & Water Colour, GADO has
also done short Animation Videos. He was honoured by International Olympic Media Awards in
Print Media in 1996 and became the Kenya International Cartoonist
of the year in 1996 - Kisima Awards.
