ARAGONES

USA

Sergio Aragones was born in 1937 in Spain but soon after, he and his parents fled to Mexico to
escape civil war. Aragones started selling his drawings to humor magazines in 1954. While
attending architecture school, instead of designing post-modern, power efficient dwellings, he
spent most of his time drawing cartoons, acting, doing mime and being a clown in an aquatic
ballet troop. He came to the US in 1962 with a mere $20 and a portfolio and soon he was
working for Mad magazine and freelancing. In 1967 he expanded his clientele to DC Comics.
In 1982 he bestowed łGroo the Wanderer˛ upon the delighted citizens of the world. He has
published over twenty books and has done numerous animated spots for television.
