Human Rights

With many parts of the world still plagued with
persecution in the name of ideology, religion,
and ethnicity, this exhibition by artists from
around the world has particular importance.
Several creators represented have been
victims of human rights violations. Nothing is
more feared by despots than ridicule, which in
its graphic form has always been uniquely painful
to its subject.

Human Rights, which includes cartoons from
over 40 countries, opened in Vienna at the
1993 United Nations World Conference on
Human Rights. Co-sponsored by
the Government of Austria in New York and in
Washington, D.C. by Amnesty International.
